Rae Earl is mad. Fat. And she keeps a diary. But I guess I’ll go more in depth, yeah? Rae Earl has just left the mental institution she was in and she seems to already hate three things; her mom, her old life, and leaving the institution. But on the way, she sees a group of kids with one girl in particular that stands out to her; her old best friend Chloe. Chloe invites her out and Rae sees this as a new opportunity to get back into a normal, teen life. She slowly starts becoming friends with everyone and becomes fairly popular with her new group of friends. But of course, what does every teen want? A girlfriend or a boyfriend. So she starts to venture into the unknown realm of boys. She finally gets a date with the boy, Archie, that first caught her eye when coming back home, and she has her first kiss with him too! But what happens when she finds out Archie’s little secret? Spoilers, ladies and gentlemen, Archie is gay. But Rae is the only one who knows! Through Rae’s boy and friend drama, she is still dealing with her new life back at home after her four months in the mental institution. She keeps a diary to vent about her mom, her teenage experiences, and how she feels about herself. Through the eyes of Rae Earl herself, we get full access to this teen’s wonderfully relatable and raw life. I can whole-heartedly say that this show has made me laugh, cry, and want half of the British boys in the show to go to my school. The humorous style of Rae’s narration and the great cast make for a captivating show, and that is exactly what it does. By: Rebecca Silverman

A storm may have headed northeast, but so are new episodes of the hit ABC drama “Grey’s Anatomy.” And yes, the second half of Season 11 will be filled with as much drama, shockers and tears as the first one.
The most anticipated part of the premiere though, lies in the show’s centric couple, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). Meredith is the show’s title character. They are left off in front of the fictional Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle, where Derek informs Meredith that he received yet another offer to work on the President’s Brain Mapping Initiative in Washington D.C. This conflict has been the root of their problem for the last two seasons, Derek promised Meredith in the middle of Season 10 that he would take a lighter workload, but retracted on his promise when he received the first offer from the President. Meredith tells Derek to take the offer and leave Seattle, leaving their two kids behind. “We end them in a fairly dark place,” executive producer and creator Shonda Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly. This statement could be true for almost every other couple on the show as well. This includes Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), who are currently separated, but have a daughter together. Callie said that she needed some space from Arizona after taking part in an exercise from their therapist where the two did not talk for 30 days, but lived in the same house. This was after Callie expressed her desire to have another child, but was unable to carry it due to complications with the couple’s previous child. Arizona on the other hand, accepted a fetal surgeon fellowship with disregard to Callie. It will be interesting to see where Rhimes and her team of writers will take the couple. “We do it slowly and interestingly, and then we are going to take our little steps,” Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and April Kepner (Sarah Drew) are stuck in tough situation too (a pattern among “Grey’s” pairings which isn’t surprising in the least). April is pregnant with the couple’s first child, but the child is suffering with some sort of birth defect. We aren’t sure what it is, but April and Jackson are unaware of its severity and may have to rely on fetal surgeon, Nicole Herman (Geena Davis) in order to save their baby. Dr. Herman on the other hand, is dealing with a problem of her own. It was revealed that she has a fatal brain tumor that is inoperable. Her fellow, Arizona Robbins, with the help of Derek’s sister Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), attempts to help Herman, much to Herman’s dismay. This half of Season 11 will be used to tie up loose ends with Ellis Grey (Kate Burton) and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), where juxtaposition is used in the final moments of the winter finale, showing the break-up of Ellis and Richard while Meredith and Derek are fighting. Meredith may have finally turned into Ellis Grey, someone she never wanted to be. Are Meredith and Derek done for good? Will Derek come back from D.C.? What about Callie and Arizona? Will they ever talk again? How do Jackson and April take the news? Can Dr. Herman help them? Tune in on Thursday at 8 p.m. on ABC to find out! By: Claudia Ralph Hello Redbanders, Fox has recently come out with the new show, Red Band Society. You get to know the hospital through a teens eyes. If you haven't seen it yet, basically it is a diverse group of teens with a lot of drama, and they all happen to be sick. The show is being narrated through Charlie, a boy in a coma, who is also Kara Sounders roommate. Kara is a stuck up preppy cheerleader with no heart, except for the fact that she has an enlarged heart that could potentially kill her. Kara is the "bitch" of the group and she always the most snarky with Emma. Emma is super smart and knows almost everything, except how to keep a healthy weight, because she is anorexic. Emma is also Leo's ex girlfriend, but there is still a lot of tension there. She clicks with the newest red bander,Jordi who is a cancer patient. Jordi is Leo's roommate. Leo is a surviver, but he had his leg amputated. He is also the leader of the group, and his best friend is Dash. Although he has cystic fibrosis, Dash likes to push the limit of his lungs; you can always find him smoking or doing sketchy things. This show is amazing, and really gives you a new look at life in the hospital. -k WITHIN THE CRAZE OF VAMPIRES, WEREWOLVES, AND ZOMBIES CAME ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR SHOWS ON TELEVISION: THE WALKING DEAD. SET IN THE APOCALYPSE AFTER A DEADLY VIRUS BROKE OUT, THE STORY TAKES OFF AS WE FOLLOW RICK GRIMES, A MAN WHO WAS IN A COMA WHILE THE EVENTS OF THE “ARMAGEDDON” UNFOLDED. ONCE HE WAKES UP, HE MUST ENCOUNTER THE ZOMBIE-FILLED WORLD. RICK REUNITES WITH HIS FAMILY AND JOINS THE GROUP OF SEVERAL OTHER SURVIVORS HIS FAMILY WAS WITH. FROM CONFRONTATIONS WITH OTHER SURVIVORS TO HOARDS OF ZOMBIES ATTACKING THE GROUP AT ONCE, THIS SERIES IS ACTION-PACKED, FULL OF SUSPENSE, AND LEAVES THE VIEWERS ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEATS.
FROM SEASON ONE TO THE START OF SEASON FIVE (THE CURRENT SEASON), THE WALKING DEAD HAS BROUGHT A NEW TYPE OF DRAMA TO POPULAR TELEVISION. MANY MIGHT BELIEVE THAT THE SHOW IS JUST ABOUT “KILLING WALKERS” AND GORE (DON’T GET ME WRONG, THERE IS A LOT). THOUGH, THE SERIES INTERESTINGLY INVOLVES MANY CHARACTER STUDIES, SHOWING HOW BRUTALITY AND THE HARSH CONDITIONS OF THE WORLD HAVE CHANGED AND SHAPED THESE PEOPLE. THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS IS ALSO SOMETHING TO NOTE, AS MANY TIMES IT IS CLEVER AND EMOTIONAL, OFTEN INCLUDING FIGURATIVE IMPLICATIONS THAT REPRESENT DEEPER MEANINGS OR THEMES. IN ADDITION, THE SERIES HAS GAINED MUCH PUBLICITY OVER ITS FOUR (GOING ON FIVE) YEAR RUN. WITH MORE FANS CAME MORE HYPE FOR THE SHOW. THE LATEST EPISODE, WHICH WAS THE SEASON FIVE PREMIERE, HAD 17.3 MILLION VIEWERS, THE MOST IT EVER RECEIVED. THE FIRST EPISODE EVER HAD 5.3 MILLION VIEWERS AND INCREASED GREATLY AT THE FINALE. EACH SEASON HAS BROUGHT MORE AND MORE FANS, ALL CRAVING THE FLESH-EATING ZOMBIES AND UNIQUE CAST OF CHARACTERS. THERE HAVE BEEN VIDEO GAMES, A TALK SHOW, ACTION-FIGURES, AND EVEN AN SNL SKIT BASED ON THE WALKING DEAD. THE SHOW DERIVED FROM THE BLACK AND WHITE COMIC BOOK SERIES BY ROBERT KIRKMAN, WHICH ALSO GAINED MUCH PUBLICITY BEFORE AND DURING THE CREATION OF THE SHOW. THE COMIC BOOKS DIFFER IN MANY WAYS FROM THE SHOW, BUT AS SHOW WRITER SCOTT M. GIMPLE SAID REGARDING THIS SEASON, THE SCRIPT AND CHARACTERS WILL BE WEAVING IN AND OUT OF THE COMICS. IF YOU LIKE ACTION, DRAMA, AND A CAPTIVATING STORY OF SURVIVAL, THEN YOU SHOULD TUNE INTO AMC AT NINE ON SUNDAY NIGHTS TO CATCH THE WALKING DEAD. BY: MAYA ABRAHAM Do you love watching funny TV shows that also have a splash of romance? “New Girl” is the show for you. The main character, Jessica Day, is funny and just an overall quirky character. She moves in 3 guy roommates after her boyfriend cheats on her. From there, the fun begins! The guys’ names are Winston Bishop, Schmidt, and Nick Miller. They all get along (most of the time) and experience hilarious situations together. Jess is constantly finding herself falling for her roommate, Nick Miller. Without giving too much of the show away, let’s just say that they both eventually dig deeper to see what’s behind all the “nonchalant, meaningless flirting”. I recommend this show to anyone who loves to laugh hysterically while watching TV shows but also takes an interest in shows involving a little bit of romance and love. This show incorporates all aspects of the “perfect TV show”, so you should start watching NOW! XOXO, Jaime Minervini |
